How to destroy an anniversary

I accept that I am biased, and very proud of riding a limited edition 110th Anniversary Road King. There are just 1,750 of them worldwide, and my low serial number of 113 shows that I went on a blind date, buying early without having seen the special colours vintage bronze and vintage black in real.

I wrote in previous posts about this, and I never regretted the step.

I also started a special FLHRANV locator on this blog, and a public page on Facebook, trying to collect all the different locations a 2013 FLHRANV landed. By now, and with the help of other owners, I could collate 23 bikes in 7 countries and 3 continents.

As the riding season is in full swing, and I visit frequently rallies in Europe, I could find 2 bikes in St. Tropez HOG Euro Festival 2013. Merci!

On a recent ride, to a dealership south of where I live, no names here, I found another, and while I took pictures of the serial number, a rider approached me, stating proudly that he also has a 2013 FLHRANV, but is presently improving it by changing the colour… WHAT?

I accept that taste is very personal, but changing the colour on a Anniversary limited edition is a crime, it should be made illegal, its what the limitation is all about! Buy a standard Road King and spray it pink, no problem with that, but killing a limited edition anniversary model?

I did not believe him, but after he showed me his creation in the workshop, I was speechless. As I did want to stay polite, I just shut up. There it was, clearly a 110th anniversary Road King, with the beautiful special tank badge and front fender logo. But everything that was once vintage bronze has been repainted in a dull silver metallic. Saddlebags, tank, fenders, no bronze left.

I therefor now officially conclude that there are not 1,750 versions of 2013 FLHRANV, but only 1,749.

Unbelievable…

  1. Maybe we can say that there are even two more less “real ANV’s”.
I have seen one (but not the counterpart second which must be somewhere…) that people have messed with serial number (s).
What I mean : a very high serial number (or probably complete tank console) somewhere between 1740 and 1750 has been taken and replaced with a very low number ……..
It is very easy to detect if you pay attention to matching numbers and some specs, so you must be a bit stupid to try a number swop !
Nevertheless, and by the way despite the fact that you can not officially buy ANV-parts as a non-owner, beware of the frauds !

  2. I have 0729. Completely stock except for the 4-point docking system.
As much as i like it , i would consider selling it if anyone is wanting one to change the color. I personally really like the colors. Less than 3500 miles.

  3. I am the owner of 731 repainted silver, and believe Axel Bleiglass is a rude and sad individual. I and the Not so Silent Grey Fellow care not a jot for his view, and feel sorry that he hasn’t got anything better to occupy his time.

  4. To each their own but …. wow, not something I would do.

  5. And I thought Harley preached individuality…His money, his bike, his taste – go for it

    • I fully agree, its all about individuality, but there are limits within special editions. I feel sorry for customer 1751 who wanted one of these limited Road King versions for its colour, and could not get one…

  6. Rob, the last anniversary was a Duracell Gold, they sell well second hand into Thailand. This year for once I feel they got the colour right, bronze. But fair point, kudos to him for repainting a brand new bike just to get the amazing tank badge.

  7. Gosh, and I was feeling guilty about wanting to change my seat! Have any other Anniversary owners changed their seat? Both I and my girlfriend don’t find it that comfortable on a long ride. Will be a shame to lose the black and brown two tone look though but I think it will have to be done.

    • Dave, change the seat for crying out loud, you and your girlfriend should enjoy the ride. But keep the original one for when you want to sell you FLHRANV later, these little details count. Ask any stamp collector…

    • Changed mine this week to the Harley Hammock seat….saved the original to put back on it when I sell it. Gotta be comfortable!

  8. Or there us 1749 normal anniversary bikes and 1 very Special version – it’s silver, I have to say I agree as wasn’t the last anniversary bike similar in colour? I say kudos to him for doing it

  9. Ha I hear that there are 5 of these in 1066 HOG – maybe he wanted to be different.
    I had a 2005 CVO fatboy – I repainted that…..I’ll get my coat
